About the Unit

The AI in Agriculture Unit is an applied research unit founded in February 2026 at the Faculty of Agriculture, Kafrelsheikh University, under the Faculty's Agricultural Experiments Center. It rests on three pillars: data, algorithms and real field application.

Ten departments (five research, five support) work towards one goal: moving Egyptian agriculture from a model based on individual experience to a digital one driven by real-time data and AI decisions.

A specialised applied research unit that integrates AI, IoT and computer vision into one agricultural system, serving Egypt's farm sector and aiming to carry its model to the Middle East and North Africa.

Vision

To be the leading national platform that turns Egyptian agricultural data into intelligent decisions, and a reference model for the Middle East and North Africa.

Mission

To build an applied research system combining AI, IoT and computer vision that raises the efficiency of Egyptian agricultural production, and to train people able to lead the sector's digital transformation.

Governance

The Unit works under a three-level governance structure:

  1. Strategic governance: the Unit Board, chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. It meets quarterly to review performance and approve plans, budgets and major partnerships.
  2. Executive leadership: the Unit Director and the two Vice Chairmen. They turn strategy into quarterly operating plans and oversee department heads.
  3. Operational execution: the heads of the ten departments and their research teams. They deliver projects and report monthly.

The Unit sits under the Faculty's Agricultural Experiments Center; the Faculty is its institutional home within Kafrelsheikh University.
